See real-time solar panel yield

19/04/2019 | Last updated on 01 april 2025

The trend with inverters is clear: less screen, more use of your smartphone. The latest SMA models have not had a display for some time, and SolarEdge is following that trend. The logic behind this is that inverters are now all connected to the internet, so you can read everything online anyway: Why pay extra for a display on the device that could also break?

Lagging data

However, there is one issue when reading data online: The data is slightly delayed. Depending on how busy the website is, the data could be up to half a day or more behind the current figures, and for some customers who like to know the current status, this can be frustrating.

For them, there is the option to connect directly to the inverter's Wi-Fi network and read the status in real-time on your smartphone or tablet. Below, we explain how this works:

  • Step 1

Search for available Wi-Fi networks on your smartphone or tablet. One of them will be your inverter, identified by the name SMA followed by a number (the serial number of your inverter). Connect to this network.

  • Step 2

You will be asked for a password: enter the WPA2-PSK code. This code consists of 16 characters and can be found on the side of the inverter or on a sticker on the back of the manual you received.

  • Step 3

You will be asked for a password: enter the WPA2-PSK code. This code consists of 16 characters and can be found on the side of the inverter or on a sticker on the back of the manual you received.

Once you have connected, you will see: connected, no internet. This is correct, as you are now only connected to the inverter with your smartphone or tablet, and not to the internet.

  • Step 4

Open a browser on your screen and enter the following IP address: 192.168.12.3

  • Step 5

The inverter login screen will appear. Select the language Dutch and the user group 'gebruiker' (user).

  • Step 6

If this is your first time logging in, you will need to create a password and enter it twice. The password must be at least 4 characters long. Write it down somewhere!

Once logged in, you can view the current status, the yield up to that point, and various other interesting parameters.

Smart Screen

At SMA, they call this the "Smart Screen" because it functions just like a regular screen on the inverter, but with additional information. This way of reading your inverter works only if you are near the device and not when you leave the house. When you're done and log out, don't forget to switch your smartphone or tablet's Wi-Fi back to your router. Please note: The Smart Screen only works with SMA inverters that do not have their own display, such as the SB 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.6, 4.0, 5.0 and the STP 4.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0.
