De batterij is gemaakt van kobalt-vrij lithium ijzer fosfaat (LFP), wat ervoor zorgt dat de batterij maximaal presteert op veiligheid, levensduur en vermogen.
De BYD HVS Battery-Box HVM heeft een Real High-Voltage series connectie. Deze connectie zorgt ervoor dat de batterij een hoog scoort op efficiëntie.
Door het modulaire plug design (waar BYD patent op heeft) is er geen interne bedrading nodig. Hierdoor is de batterij flexibel inzetbaar en gemakkelijk te gebruiken.

Het gebruik van lithium is duurzamer dan het gebruik van fossiele brandstoffen, maar desondanks is er veel mijnbouw voor nodig. Daarom is het zaak om bij deze snelgroeiende industrie te zorgen voor goede regulering en streng toezicht. Het verplichten van recycling is daarbij al een goede stap op weg naar een ‘circulaire’ economie.
Een document waarover vaak wordt gesproken als het gaat om energieopslagsystemen is de ‘Publicatiereeks Gevaarlijke Stoffen’ (PGS). Dit is een serie richtlijnen over de veilige opslag van gevaarlijke stoffen en bijbehorende activiteiten in Nederland. Voor ‘lithium-houdende energiedragers’, zoals batterijen, is PGS nummer 37 opgesteld. Er bestaat momenteel niet echt een verplichting om de richtlijnen van de PGS-37 te volgen; het gaat hier meer om aanbevelingen.
